Renderings commissioned by Destination Cleveland show what a domed stadium for the Browns might look like at the site currently occupied by Burke Lakefront Airport.

The images of the proposed 70,000-seat dome and surrounding district with hotels, retail space, residential units, parking and marina comes less than two weeks after the Haslam Sports Group, the owners of the Browns, confirmed plans to relocate from downtown Cleveland to a domed stadium in Brook Park. On Wednesday, the Portland City Council unanimously approved a resolution to support the Portland Diamond Project’s efforts to bring Major League Baseball to Portland and construct a new stadium in the South Waterfront neighborhood at Zidell Yards.

The resolution, introduced by Mayor Ted Wheeler, acknowledges the benefits of attracting a Major League Baseball team to Portland.

“I am proud to support Portland Diamond Project and leverage the City’s talent and resources in service of making this vision a reality,” said Mayor Ted Wheeler. “The positive impact to our region would be tremendous. Now is the time to dream big for Portland, our region and the state of Oregon.” [Fox 12]

VCU plans to break ground on its Athletic Village project on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The 41.7-acre development is located off Hermitage Road, just across the road from the future Diamond District and CarMax Park.

Construction of the village will span four phases. When complete, the area will include an 18-court indoor/outdoor tennis facility, a 4,000-seat soccer stadium, a track and field complex, and a 20,000-sqft multipurpose training center. There will also be practice fields and parking areas.

The first phase will reportedly see the construction of the track and field complex and athletic fields, which will be built on the southern end of the development near Hermitage, Rhoadmiller, and Hardy Streets.

Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin has said that the village’s facilities will be open to the public as well as student athletes. [RIC Today]
