U.S. Open's Arthur Ashe Stadium Getting $800 Million Overhaul
The U.S. Open's Arthur Ashe Stadium will get an overhaul as part of an $800 million project announced Monday that the U.S. Tennis Association is touting as the "largest single investment" in the history of its Grand Slam tournament.
The USTA said it is funding the improvements at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, with no help from the city government.
According to a class-action antitrust lawsuit filed in federal court in New York in March by a players' group co-founded by Novak Djokovic, the four major tennis tournaments - the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, French Open and Australian Open - "generated over $1.5 billion collectively in 2024, while only paying between (10% to 20%) of revenue to players."

University of Toledo Announces Champions Complex Shared Sports Facility
The University of Toledo’s athletic director has announced plans for a new shared facility.
Bryan Blair, vice president and director of athletics for UT, revealed Monday that the university has hired an architect to design the Champions Complex, a shared space between student athletes and ROTC students.
The Champions Complex will be in the university’s Health Education Building, a facility ROTC students are currently using.
“We’re looking at some ways we can grow forward with ROTC and us, cohabitate and really bring that building into the modern era but also check a bunch of boxes including getting baseball [and] softball to campus, doubling the size of our academic study area, and give us a training table where we can give our student athletes high-caliber nutrition, and a place to be around each other as iron sharpens iron,” Mr. Blair said at the Rotary Club of Toledo’s weekly luncheon.

Venice High School's Powell-Davis Stadium Gets a Makeover
The way John Peacock figures it, Venice High now will have a facility in quality equal to its football team.
At a cost of $12 million, the tab picked up by Sarasota County, Powell-Davis Stadium didn’t just get a nip here and a tuck there. The renovations to the field and surrounding area make this a total facelift.
And, according to Peacock, a badly needed one at that.
“The County looked at our overall facilities,” the school’s head football coach said. “I mean, they’re from 19-whatever. I don’t know how old they are. Those old bathrooms were from the 1960s. So they said they need to upgrade everything. It was just a comprehensive thing to where they thought they just needed to refurbish the bathrooms, concessions, and everything. The concession stand was horrible and outdated.”
