The 135,000-square-foot expansion, doubling the previous size of the facility on Jackson Boulevard, south of the United Center, has been under construction since May 2024.

The expansion of Fifth Third Arena, the Blackhawks’ practice facility on the Near West Side, remains on track to be completed in January 2026 — and the team released new renderings of the project Tuesday.
The 135,000-square-foot expansion, doubling the previous size of the facility on Jackson Boulevard, south of the United Center, has been under construction since May 2024.
The number of rinks in the facility is increasing from two to four, including one rink with roughly 1,600 permanent seats and capacity for up to 2,000 spectators. The existing two rinks only have capacity for a couple hundred spectators, which has been a crucial weakness of the facility.

GMC Prep Groundbreaking on New Athletic Facility
On Tuesday morning, Georgia Military College Prep School broke ground on its new 9,180 square-foot Athletic Complex. The ceremony, held at 330 S Warren Street, welcomed GMC leadership, coaches, student-athletes, and supporters to celebrate this bold step forward in athletic excellence.
Unveiled during GMC’s annual Casino Night Auction in March, the complex represents a significant investment in the future of student-athletes at GMC Prep. The facility will include a top-tier weight room and turf training area, a team meeting and film room, sport-specific locker rooms for football and soccer, modern shower and restroom facilities, ample storage, and year-round access to coaching staff and a coaches’ conference room.

Washington’s Field House Wins Massive Riverboat Grant
The Washington County Riverboat Foundation announced its spring grant awards Wednesday night in Kalona, delivering its annual share of good news and funding for a spread of local governments, first responders, nonprofits and schools. But A $3.5 million contribution to a field house for Washington’s schools stole the show.
The contribution is tied for the largest in WCRF history, according to Foundation Director Patty Koller. The move comes months after a separate $4 million donation from an anonymous benefactor, who offered the funds to the school district’s athletic booster club on the condition they be used for a top-of-the-line athletic facility.
Koller said it was hard to turn down a near match for such an ambitious contribution.
