The KC Current women’s soccer team is planning to build a second riverfront soccer stadium, this time on the north side of the Missouri River.
The Riverside Board of Aldermen approved a $16.8 million plan this week for an expansion to the Current’s training complex off Horizons Parkway with a 2,000-seat outdoor stadium and a 17,000 square-foot performance center with indoor and outdoor training areas, locker rooms, a player lounge and a multipurpose room.

The KC Current women’s soccer team is planning to build a second riverfront soccer stadium, this time on the north side of the Missouri River.
The Riverside Board of Aldermen approved a $16.8 million plan this week for an expansion to the Current’s training complex off Horizons Parkway with a 2,000-seat outdoor stadium and a 17,000 square-foot performance center with indoor and outdoor training areas, locker rooms, a player lounge and a multipurpose room.
The plan would also include a sales tax exemption for construction materials.
Further details were not immediately available. The Current had no comment as of Friday afternoon.

UAB's Bartow Arena Set for $14.6 Million Renovation
An extensive upgrade at UAB’s Bartow Arena is expected to turn it into one of the best basketball and volleyball venues in the American Athletics Conference.
According to a news release, the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees unanimously approved Friday the $14.6 million budget and renovation project for the UAB arena.
“I am grateful for the unwavering support of the UA System Board of Trustees and UAB leadership under President Watts’ vision for excellence, as well as our donors and fans who continue to champion UAB Athletics,” said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram.
The enhancements include an expanded entrance lobby, a new club-level lounge with club-level seating for an enhanced viewing experience, replacement of some lower bowl seating to elevate the fan experience, and concourse improvements such as updated lighting and restrooms.
