Developer Eyes $5B Project at Site of Oakland ColiseumÂ
An Oakland-based developer has assumed full ownership of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, paving the way for the revitalisation of the deteriorating California complex.
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $125 million deal to offload a 50% stake in the property to an affiliate of the African American Sports & Entertainment Group (AASEG) on Tuesday (Jul 22), giving the developer complete control of the Coliseum. The group purchased the other 50 per cent stake earlier this year.
AASEG can now move forward with its proposal to spend $5 billion transforming the 112-acre (45 hectares) complex. The company has announced plans to develop new sports facilities, entertainment venues, a hotel and affordable housing on the acreage. The business group said it is focused on stimulating the economy of East Oakland, an underserved part of the city.

New Soccer Field Opens at Wilson Middle SchoolÂ
A brand-new joint-use soccer field at Wilson Middle School is now complete and set to serve students and families in City Heights.
Students from the Hoover Cluster Schools celebrated the milestone Monday during the “Summer in the Heights” Sports Camp, hosted by Price Philanthropies, Brains & Motion Education (BAM!), and San Diego FC. The summer event offers soccer and volleyball clinics, STEM activities, and lessons in sports-related careers.
The new field is part of the George Walker Smith Education Campus, which includes the recently modernized Central Elementary and Wilson Middle Schools.
