Sergeant Bluff-Luton Cuts Ribbon on New Sports Complex
The Warriors girls’ tennis team had the honor of breaking in a few new tennis courts at the grand opening of the school’s brand new sports facility.
When finished, this multi-sport facility will include a turf softball field, turf baseball field, and, of course, the tennis courts, which also include lines for pickleball.
Superintendent Chad Janzen is thrilled that the work the district has put into the project is finally paying off.
“It’s really exciting. It’s been a long time in the making. The conversations about this happening began 2-3 years ago. We have really successful spring athletic programs. Our baseball team was just in the state tournament. The softball team has gone deep in the playoffs multiple times over the last few years. Our boys’ tennis team was third in the state last year. We have a girls’ team that is ranked and an individual who is ranked. These kids work really hard, so it’s nice to have a good facility like this for them to play and practice on,” exclaimed Janzen as he watched the Warrior tennis team.
Football, Soccer, Track: Park In Newark Upgraded With New Playing Surfaces
A $1.5 million modernization project crossed the finish line at a county-run park in Newark this week.
On Tuesday, Essex County officials announced that the football/soccer field and the rubberized running track at the Rev. Ron Christian Athletic Complex in Weequahic Park have been upgraded with new surfaces.
According to the county, the field and track were created in 2016 and needed to be updated because of regular wear and tear. This is the first time the surfaces have been replaced.
