Denver Broncos Announce Plans for New Retractable Roof Stadium

The rumors are true: the Denver Broncos are planning for a new stadium.

After months of possible deals, paperwork and talk of a new stadium, on Tuesday, the Broncos, Mayor Mike Johnston and Gov. Jared Polis finally announced their preferred site for the new stadium with a retractable roof at Burnham Yard, a 58-acre abandoned railyard.

The current Empower Field at Mile High Stadium opened in 2001 to replace the Broncos’ original Mile High Stadium. The stadium moved less than 50 feet and cost more than $400 million. Now, the new stadium plans to move about a mile further in a privately-funded, several billion-dollar investment.

“Today is a remarkable win-win-win for Denver,” said Johnston. “The Broncos are staying in Denver, we will finally open up the historic Burnham Yard neighborhood for development, and we get to reimagine the Mile High Stadium site as a thriving community in West Denver. The Walton-Penner Ownership Group’s private investment into building a world-class stadium in the heart of Denver will open up new possibilities – not just for Burnham Yard – but across the city.

New Wellness Center Opens at Trinity College

The long-anticipated Scully Center officially opened its doors on June 30, 2025, marking the start of a new era for athletics, wellness, and community at Trinity College. The 33,000-square-foot expansion of the Ferris Athletic Center was named in honor of Marlynn V. and William “Bill” P. Scully, whose philanthropy has long supported Trinity’s athletic programs and student scholarships. The Scully Center was designed as a hub where varsity athletes, club teams and recreational students can come together to connect and improve their well-being, securing its place as a cornerstone of campus life for future years to come at Trinity College.

The Scully family has a long history of philanthropy, from endowing the men’s basketball coaching position to funding golf and football programs as well as establishing scholarships that honor classmates. Additional support came from alumni and families, including Elissa Raether Kovas ’93 and Ted Kovas P’25 (Kovas Squash Center), Raymond J. Beech ’60, P’94 (Beech Leadership Suite), Mimi and Malcolm F. MacLean IV ’92 (MacLean Lobby), and Claire Slaughter Joyce ’86 and Tom Joyce (Champions Terrace).

Many alumni returning for class reunions and future students attended the event to celebrate the venue—a new source of school pride.

Kicking off the event, Newark Memorial High School principal Michael Murphy recognized alumni and all contributors to the construction project. Newark Unified School District school board president Katherine Jones followed up with words of gratitude as well, recognizing that the project was made possible by Measure G bond sales.

“We can’t wait to see all the ways that it will benefit our athletic program here at Newark Memorial,” said Jones. “The board and the staff continue to look forward to the many more successful projects as we begin to enhance facilities funded by the [recently-passed] measure of school bond sales.”
