Ravens, City of Baltimore Celebrate Opening of New Recreation Center
West Baltimore residents have a new, state-of-the-art facility to play, learn and grow with the opening of a new recreation center.
Ravens leaders, players, city and state officials and members of the community celebrated the opening of the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club at Hilton Recreation Center on Monday.
It marks only the third collaboration in the nation between an NFL team and a Boys & Girls Club.
The gymnasium, where Steph Curry made the first basket on the court, is one of several highlights at the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club.
City of Woodruff Breaks Ground on New Athletic Complex
The city of Woodruff celebrated the groundbreaking of Libertas Academy Woodruff and the Riverbend Athletic Complex on Oct. 8.
Libertas Academy Woodruff will be a new public charter school for students in grades 4K to 8th grade located at 497 Godfrey Town Road. Celina Patton, school director at Libertas Academy Woodruff, said the new charter school represents a monumental step forward for the community.
“We are thrilled to offer a tuition-free public charter school that will provide an exceptional education for students,” Patton said. “This school means more options for parents and a bright future for our children, filled with academic excellence and strong character development.”
Libertas Academy Woodruff, authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027. The new campus will be the second Libertas Academy to open in Spartanburg County. Tutelage School Solutions, a Columbia-based education management organization, will support the new charter school.
Apollo High School Readies $50M Renovation, New Athletic Complex
More details are emerging about the design vision for Apollo High School in St. Cloud, an aging building that’s up for a $50 million makeover.
The project, which was approved last spring in a bond referendum, is expected to begin next summer and wrap up in summer 2028, according to the district. Among other fixes, crews will improve safety, overhaul lab space, update career and tech ed spaces and modernize learning improvements in the building, which dates to 1970.
Also last spring, residents approved a $15 million request for a new multipurpose athletic facility at Apollo High School. The sports project will support year-round activities for students.
JLG Architects is designing both projects. At a recent St. Cloud school board meeting, JLG representatives unveiled fresh project renderings, and walked board members through the design.
Visitors to the renovated Apollo won’t have to look far to see the changes.
