Rooftop Soccer Complex Opens at the Americana at Brand

A new rooftop sports complex has opened in Glendale, transforming part of the Americana at Brand into an open-air soccer venue.

The 25,000-square-foot installation, called Skyline Pitch, occupies the top level of the shopping center’s parking structure and features two small-sided soccer fields, a panna cage, futsal tennis court and lounge spaces overlooking the city.

Developed by Chicago-based marketing agency Elemento L2, the temporary venue aims to bring small-field, urban-style soccer to Los Angeles.

“L.A.’s soccer community is incredibly vast and diverse,” said Ivan Lopez, founder of Skyline Pitch and managing director of elemento L2. “We set out to create something truly unique—a space where the game meets the city skyline.”

White House City Hold Grand Opening for New Recreation Center

Over three years after first announcing the project, White House’s brand-new recreation center was officially unveiled last week with a grand opening to the local community.

To celebrate the completion of the 70,800-square foot facility, state, county and other local leaders joined White House city staff and residents for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 29.

White House City Administrator Gerald Herman began the evening by describing the history of the property where the recreation center now sits, located at the intersection of Hwy. 31W and College Street.

According to Herman, on April 23 1900, a man named J.P. Jernigan ceded this tract of land to Professor Alfred Thomas Jackson, who lived in a house across the street, to build a school that became known as the Sumner-Robertson Normal College. The school would open for its first term five months later in September 1900, exactly 125 years ago.
