Chambers County to Break Ground on New Soccer Complex and Community Center
The Chambers County Commissioners Court, Carter Construction, and Brown Reynolds and Watford (BRW) Architects held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon, after a year-long planning phase for the Chambers County Soccer Complex and Community Center.
The facility is located on the south side of Chambers Parkway approximately a half-mile west of state Highway 146. It will consist of six soccer fields, a 13,400 sq. ft. community center, an additional 3,600 sq. ft. containing restrooms and concession stand. It will also have 440 parking spaces. The total facility will be approximately 25 acres, according to Paul Fowler, a Carter Construction spokesperson.
Executive Education Academy Charter School to Build Stadium Atop Parking Structure
Executive Education Academy Charter School, a charter school located in Allentown, Pa., is set to become one of the only stadiums in the country to be on a rooftop of any kind.
The new 4,000 square foot stadium is set to be built atop a parking deck with room to accommodate 300 cars.
The school shares an easement with Lehigh County and the minor league IronPigs team, whom they share a parking lot with, thus sparking the need for a creative solution. The baseball team wasn't crazy about giving up a bunch of parking to make room for a stadium, and EEAC was willing to get creative to solve the problem.
East Charlotte to Break Ground on New Sports Complex
A sports complex is expected to break ground at Eastland Yards in east Charlotte in the first quarter of 2026.
Why it matters: The Eastland Yards redevelopment aims to infuse fresh energy into the east Charlotte site that housed the once-vibrant Eastland Mall for 35 years before it closed in 2010.
What to expect: The sports complex will include six full-size soccer fields, a 100,000-square-foot indoor facility for basketball and volleyball, plus other amenities, says Tim Sittema, managing partner and co-founder of Crosland Southeast, the master developer of Eastland Yards.
- The sports complex, a joint venture that includes Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) and EDGE Sports Global, is expected to take roughly a year and a half to complete. CSA will oversee, develop and program the soccer fields, and EDGE Sports Global will develop and operate the indoor facility.
