Gregory-Portland ISD Cuts Ribbon on $65M Facility
Gregory-Portland ISD in Texas on Saturday celebrated the ribbon cutting of its brand-new all purpose athletic facility and field house Saturday morning.
The $64.5 million multi-purpose facility has it all — state-of-the-art equipment, spacious locker rooms, and an indoor field that everyone from athletes to band members can enjoy year-round.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Cavazos said for the Gregory-Portland community, it's a dream years in the making.
"The space that is really to inspire our students, our current and future generations, um, as you look around, you can see we've got this amazing field that's marked from various sports from soccer to baseball, softball and football. There's a running track strip, so sprinting and hurdling. We've got some really great spaces for fine arts as well," Dr. Cavazos said.
Dr. Cavazos said the goal was simple to create a place that inspires future generations, just like Coach George Harris did for 32 years.

Play Ball! Buddy Bolding Stadium Upgraded for 2025-26
Fans and Farmville natives driving down Main Street may have noticed that Buddy Bolding Stadium was under construction this summer. They may not recognize the field with the renovations complete.
Now, Longwood baseball boasts one of the best ballparks in the Big South thanks to a fully donor-funded project that has completely transformed the storied venue named after the legendary head coach who began the program.
"First, thank you to all the people that have been involved and for the support that makes a project like this possible," said Longwood Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Hall. "A project of this scale cannot happen without buy-in from a variety of people, and I am grateful to see the end result of a lot of time and effort here. Buddy Bolding Stadium is a special place with a lot of history embedded within the stadium. We get to celebrate that on a daily basis with the beautiful new playing surface that will also impact our pursuit of excellence in a tremendously positive way."
