Vail's Dobson Arena Opens Following $55M Renovation
After nearly two years of work and a $55 million renovation, Vail’s Dobson Arena has officially reopened.
The town held a ribbon-cutting celebration Tuesday to mark the occasion.
The venue, located in Vail Village, has stood in the same spot for more than 40 years. It was long a place for figure skaters and hockey players to practice and play. Now it has also been expanded into a larger space for concerts and events.
“It's really fun to be mayor. It's fun to be here and be a part of things like this,” Vail Mayor Barry Davis said. “Today is the ribbon cutting, and I think a lot of people are very excited about that. The hockey community especially very excited.”
Fitness SF Turns Old Lombardi Sports Building Into 43K-SF Fitness Center
After sitting vacant since 2014, the former Lombardi Sports building is getting a new life. On Nov. 1, San Francisco-founded, locally owned Fitness SF opened its newest location at 1600 Jackson St., transforming the building into a 43,654-square-foot modern fitness and wellness destination serving the Russian Hill, Nob Hill and Polk/Gulch neighborhoods. The new facility brings new activity to a long-shuttered neighborhood landmark while contributing to the vitality of the surrounding community.
Fitness SF purchased the 1908-built property, leading an adaptive reuse in partnership with San Francisco Bay Area-based architecture and interior design firm Studio KDA. “Our goal was to elevate the classic Fitness SF experience while capitalizing on the features of the existing two-story concrete structure, which has served many uses, from parking garage to retail, to create a high-end fitness and lifestyle facility. That transformation involved an extraordinarily complex technical process that was successfully navigated thanks to the commitment of Fitness SF, the city, and the entire project team.,” said Studio KDA Associate Principal Halle Lozano.
Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County Breaks Ground on New Rec Center
The Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County broke ground Monday on the Guilfoil Recreation Center, a new facility at 801 Columbia Avenue that organizers say could let the club welcome 60 to 100 more children than it serves today. The groundbreaking ceremony drew club leadership, construction representatives and current members to the Glasgow site where the new building will rise.
According to WNKY, the center is being built thanks to a gift from the Craft family and will be named in honor of Kelly Craft's parents, recognizing the Guilfoil family's longtime ties to the Glasgow community. Club CEO Mallie Boston told those gathered that the project exceeds what she once thought possible for the organization, saying, “This is more than I could ever imagine.”
