A YMCA in Somerville, N.J., is cleaning up a mess after a car plowed through the west wall of the facility’s swimming pool Wednesday.
Police responded at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report that a car had crashed into the Somerville YMCA. The driver was attempting to park when the car struck a concrete bollard and continued east through the west wall of the building, according to MyCentralJersey.com.
The vehicle came to rest halfway through the wall, causing heavy damage to the swimming pool area. Only a small piece of debris struck a visitor at the pool, causing a minor abrasion. The visitor declined medical attention.

The driver of the car was impaired and found at fault for driver inattention.
The YMCA is structurally sound but the pool area is closed at the moment.
"We will be working to repair the building as soon as possible and will communicate updates as new information becomes available. We apologize for the inconvenience to members," reads a statement on the Y’s website.
The website suggests members visit the Bridgewater YMCA, Hillsborough YMCA and Somerset Hills YMCA for their lap swim and aqua exercise needs until repairs are complete.
