The city of Norwalk, Iowa, has approved the development of two major sports and recreation projects.

On Thursday, the city council approved the Central Iowa Sports Campus, which will include over 15 acres of turf multi-sport athletic fields, as well as the purchase of two land purchase agreements, which will allow for the construction of a long-awaited 45,000-square-foot public recreation facility.

“Norwalk Central is a critical step helping to meet needs for our citizens and also spur commercial development in the heart of our community,” Norwalk city manager Luke Nelson said in a news release obtained by the Des Moines CBS affiliate.

Norwalk expects the new projects to bring an estimated 1,000,000 new visitors to the area each year for large tournaments and events.
