Chilean Soccer Fans Storm World Cup Stadium

If there’s one thing we can learn from the fan-fueled fiasco at Marcana Stadium on Wednesday, it’s that Chile’s soccer fans will do just about anything to see their team compete in the FIFA World Cup.

According to CBS Sports, hundreds of Chile’s fans broke through two barriers of temporary walls in a media center located on the stadium’s first floor.

The blunder happened approximately an hour before Chile was set to play Spain in a group stage match.

As USA Today reports, “It wasn’t clear how they even got into the media center, where credentials are supposed to be checked at the door. But the fans somehow got onto a concourse between the media center and the field, and there were so many that they toppled one section of temporary wall and then another.”

Most of the fans were ticketless; all of them were decked out in Chile gear.
