Ahead of the college basketball season, Northwestern University unveiled the newly renovated Welsh-Ryan Arena. The facility now features a slightly larger footprint and slightly decreased seating capacity, as well as an expanded lobby, new locker rooms and lounge space. Southern Utah University celebrated the opening of its new $1.8 million George S. Eccles Sports Performance Center. The 8,000-square-foot facility features amenities to attract prospective student-athletes, including a new weight room and a nutrition station. — SUU.edu

Attendees at AB Show had the chance to tour some new and recently renovated facilities in the New Orleans area this week. The first tour included a visit to LSU, where attendees got to check out the school’s Gymnastics Training Facility, which opened in 2016, as well as the recently renovated UREC, one of our 2018 Facilities of Merit honorees.

Attendees at another pre-conference tour saw the JCC New Orleans Uptown, which just completed a renovation and expansion project, as well as the Ochsner Fitness Center. Each tour offered attendees inspiration and ideas for their own facility projects, as well as practical advice for implementing and operating their programs.

Augustana University is set to begin construction on a new track and field complex. The $2 million Larson Track & Field Complex will feature a 300 meter track, a steeplechase area with a water pit, multiple pits for long jump, triple jump and pole vault, and training areas for shot put and discus. In addition, a synthetic turf field will be used by football, soccer and other field sports for training activities. — GoAugie.com
