The University of Kentucky is renovating the upper level at Rupp Arena, converting bleacher seats to chairs with backs in a move that will reduce capacity at the legendary venue from 23,500 to 20,500. All current season-ticket holders will still be accommodated for the 2019-20 season.
"Meeting our top priority at the outset of this renovation, we will maintain seating to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders next season," Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhardt said, as reported by the Glasgow Daily Times. "Additionally, we took this opportunity to complete a comprehensive review of our season ticket inventory and pricing to make sure we are creating options that meet the needs of our fans."

The addition of all blue chair-back seats in the upper level has provided fans who have season tickets seven different pricing levels to choose from, depending on seating preference, as well as K Fund point rankings and loyalty points based on season-ticket purchasing longevity. That said, the majority of seats in the upper level will not require a K fund donation in addition to the cost of the season ticket. In fact, approximately 64 percent of seats located in the upper level will cost less.
Pricing for all seats was based on analytical data provided through Ticketmaster to gauge the value of each section and adjust based on demand, according to the Daily Times. The renovation will begin in June and be completed by the start of basketball practice in October.
