Marquette University this week unveiled its new $24 million Athletic and Human Performance Research Center. The 46,000-square-foot facility serves both athletic and research functions as the name indicates. Research space for a variety of academic disciplines will be housed within the facility, as well as strength and conditioning space for athletics, locker and support space for the lacrosse and golf programs and more. A dedication ceremony is planned for later this month. — Journal Sentinel
San Jose State University recently cut the ribbon on a new $130 million recreation and aquatic center. The new Student Recreation and Aquatic Center, colloquially referred to as “S-RACK, was designed by architecture firm Gensler. It features a three court gymnasium, a rock climbing wall, fitness equipment, an indoor track and group exercise rooms across 128,000-square-feet of space. Two outdoor pools, one a 21-lane competition pool, the other for recreation purposes, complete the facility. — Mercury News
Idaho State University this week unveiled plans to renovate Davis Field, the school’s soccer and outdoor track and field venue. The $4 million project will upgrade the facility to meet NCAA standards for hosting events (in its current condition, the facility cannot host track and field events or postseason soccer tournaments). Plans call for removing bleachers on the east side, widening the soccer field, replacing and widening the track surface and improving drainage. — Idaho State Journal
The University of Missouri-Kansas City will receive a $1.5 million upgrade for its athletic facilities, including the Swinney Center, sports medicine and sports performance facilities. The Swinney Center, home to the school’s basketball and volleyball teams, will restructure space and include new fan amenities and branding elements. — Kansas City Star
