Baylor University on Tuesday announced plans to build a $105 million basketball facility. The news comes on the heels of an announced $100 million anonymous gift to the schoolā€™s Give Light fundraising campaign.

The gift is the largest in the schoolā€™s history and paves the way for the creation of a key portion of the universityā€™s Athletics Master Plan.

ā€œToday is an exciting day for Baylor Athletics,ā€ athletic director and university vice president Mack Rhoades said. ā€œThis marks a tremendous step forward in our effort to create the nationā€™s best home-court advantage for each of our 19 intercollegiate sport programs.ā€

The fieldhouse-concept facility, currently called the Baylor Basketball Pavilion, will feature a capacity of 7,000-7,500, a new state-of-the-art practice facility, separate locker rooms, practice gyms, team lounges and office suites, and shared sports medicine and athletic performance space. The new facility will allow for the menā€™s and womenā€™s basketball programs to relocate, freeing up space in the Ferrell Center and allowing for that facility to undergo a renovation and improvement project of its own.

The Ferrell Center will primarily host the volleyball and acrobatics and tumbling programs. The facility will undergo a $20 million renovation once the basketball project is complete.
