The historic Hinkle Fieldhouse sprung a leak Wednesday night.
The 19th-ranked Butler University men’s basketball team was hosting No. 12 Villanova in the 92-year-old Indianapolis arena when the roof began to leak, according to the Indianapolis Star. Twitter videos showed the water landing on the northeast corner of the court, suspending the game with 13 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the first half and Butler holding a 13-9 lead.
The game was delayed for 19 minutes while the water was mopped up. Water continued to fall, forcing Butler staff to place a bucket under the leak.
The game was worth sticking around for, as Butler’s Kamar Baldwin made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 79-76 win.
Hinkle went through a $10.5 million renovation in 2019. The building added air conditioning, although the Indianapolis Star reported that the renovation mainly revolved around the Efroymson Family Gym – a practice facility with two courts that got new lighting, flooring, padding, window treatments and a camera system.
