SoFi Stadium, home to the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, officially opened this week with a virtual ribbon cutting held on Tuesday. The facility is the NFL’s largest stadium at 3.1 million square feet and has seating for 70,000, expandable to 100,000 for special events. In addition, the stadium holds the world’s largest video board. The first official event to be held at the stadium will take place on Sunday, when the Rams host the Dallas Cowboys.

The city council of Inglewood, Calif., unanimously approved the sale of a parcel of land to developers who plan on building a new $1.8 billion arena for the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers. Plans for the project call for an 18,000-seat arena, team offices, a practice facility and public use-spaces. Construction on the project could begin next year, and the arena is targeting opening prior to the 2024-25 NBA season. — LATimes.com

San Benito CISD in Texas is adding an indoor multipurpose athletic center to its high school campus. The facility will include a 90-yard synthetic turf field lined for both football and soccer, drop-down batting cages, a 10,000-square-foot weight room and a sports medicine space. Substantial completion of the project is expected in November. — The Brownsville Herald
The University of Mobile broke ground this week on the J.L. Bedsole Strength and Conditioning Complex. The 4,000-square-foot facility will be used by the NAIA program’s student-athletes, as well as students in the school’s health and sports sciences program. It includes cardio and weight training space, offices and an exterior training space for campus functions and community events. — UMobileRams.com
