As Oklahoma preps for its move to the Southeastern Conference, the Sooners this week announced a realignment of its seating chart for Gaylord Stadium.
An email sent to season ticket holders, and obtained by FanNation, detailed the changes and the process for upgrading seats in the future.
"As we have evaluated the move to the SEC, we have learned of regulations surrounding competition by which we must abide as members," Oklahoma wrote. "For the 2024 football season, to adhere to SEC regulations, we will be required to adjust some seating locations to accommodate for these group-specific seating requirements. While this reconfiguration plan does not affect your 2024 seat location, as a loyal season ticket holder we want you to be aware of this change."
As a result of the change, the student section will slide closer to the end zone to meet SEC policies, which require that the student section be outside the 30-year line. In addition, the SEC requires 5,000 visiting team seats and 2,000 must be in the lower level (Big 12 only requires 2,500 visiting team seats.)
According to the email, the following sections will be affected by the new policies:
- Section 15
- Section 16 (Rows 6-28 and 57-72)
- Section 20 (Rows 6-28)
- Sections 22, 23, 24 and 25
Oklahoma assured season tickets holders affected by the new configuration that they will have the first opportunity to select seats for the 2024 season prior to non-affected season ticket holders.
"After the affected group has been assigned selection times, the non-affected group (your group) will be ranked in Sooner Point order and assigned selection times," the email read. "Seats will be selected via an online interactive seat map. Assigned selection times, details on when the interactive seat map will be live and additional instructions will be provided via email to the address on your account prior to the start of the selection process."
