Minnesota City Pauses Two Planned HS Stadium Renovations Over Possible Noise Issue

Plans to renovate and reopen two high school stadiums in Bloomington, Minn., are on hold after concerns were voiced that home games might be too loud.

Bloomington's Kennedy and Jefferson high schools both hoped to move ahead with renovations of their respective stadiums, but city ordinances may be against them.

According to the Star Tribune, Bloomington limits decibel levels. Bloomington Public Schools spokesman Rick Kaufman said he did not think noise at either stadium would fall within those limits.

The school district plans to ask for a variance from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency that would allow them to proceed with the planned renovation.

While the district goes through the variance process the projects will not advance through city permitting, Kaufman said — meaning the stadiums will be set back several months from the district's planned fall 2024 opening.

If all goes to plan, Kaufman said the renovated stadiums will open sometime in 2025.
