The Washington Commanders have a new name for their football stadium. FedEx has stepped away from its contract with The Commanders after it was set to expire in 2026. Now, Northwest Federal Credit Union can hang its banner at the stadium.

Northwest Federal Credit Union is the financial home to more than 279,000 members based in Virginia. According to their website, the credit union, “ranks among the largest credit unions in Virginia and in the top 60 credit unions in the nation. Established in 1947.”

The $7.5 million annual deal is worth more than the entire life of the FedEx naming rights. And, the partnership between Northwest Federal Credit Union and The Commanders does not include any first option naming rights for the potential new stadium awaiting the team in 2031.

According to Commanders News, Josh Harris, the team’s managing partner said, “Northwest Federal Credit Union has been an integral part of this community for generations (…) As we continue to work toward our goal of building the Commanders into an elite franchise that consistently competes for championships, we are excited to welcome our team and fans to Northwest Stadium and look forward to creating incredible memories together on the field and in the communities we serve.”

Jeff Bentley, president and CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union also released a statement saying, “With a combined history of nearly 170 years in the D.C. metro area, this expanded partnership was an amazing alignment of our values to enrich the local community. It is an honor to be able to welcome everyone to 'Northwest Stadium' and introduce the inspiring initiatives that this collaboration represents.”

Fans can find the Northwest logo on the exterior and interior of the stadium. Northwest Federal Credit Union will also be the patch partner of off-season and in-season practice uniforms for the Commanders. And, any Commanders fans who are also credit union members will get discounted tickets and team merchandise.

Commanders News said, “The Northwest-Commanders naming-rights deal marks the beginning of a new era for Commanders fans and new heights in the community work that can be accomplished. The deal was secured in collaboration with Elevate to negotiate a community-driven, naming-rights partnership between the Washington Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union, which is the first naming-rights partnership for a credit union in NFL history.”
