The University of Michigan athletics department announced Wednesday the Leaders and Best Champion Partners Program, a carefully developed initiative that will bring select advertising opportunities inside Michigan Stadium.

According to the department's official announcement, the program "reflects a strategic approach to supporting student-athletes amid the rapidly evolving college athletics landscape, while preserving the tradition, character and unmatched gameday experience of the iconic 99-year-old venue."

The inaugural group of Leaders and Best Champion partners includes Coca-Cola, Meijer and Google Gemini, each selected for "alignment with Michigan's values and commitment to delivering a fan-first experience," he announcement stated. "These partners will be integrated through clean, tailored and thoughtfully designed activations that respect the tradition of Michigan Stadium while enhancing engagement for fans."

"This is not a departure from who we are, but an evolution that strengthens our ability to remain a national leader, compete for championships, and support our student-athletes in the modern era of college athletics," outgoing Michigan athletics director Warde Manuel said.

Per the announcement, the Leaders and Best Champion Partners Program elements can include on-field and stadium-based branding, scoreboard integrations and end zone placements, digital and in-game sponsorship activations, with an exploration of jersey patches and additional premium assets. To preserve the stadium aesthetic, all signage will follow a uniform visual standard in maize, blue or white, balancing visibility with deliberate design.

The program is delivered in coordination with Learfield and its Michigan Sports Properties team, which serves as the exclusive multimedia rights holder for Michigan Athletics and manages all sponsorship and brand partnership efforts on behalf of the Wolverines.

"The Leaders and Best Champion Partners Program reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and opportunity," said Kim Damron, president of Learfield Sports Properties. "We're proud to work alongside Michigan Athletics on an approach that honors the legacy of the Big House, supports student-athletes and creates long-term value for fans, partners and the future of the University of Michigan."

According to Austin Meek of The Athletic, Michigan projects $297 million in athletics revenue and expenses for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The school reported $35.6 million in corporate sponsorships, advertising and licensing on its 2025 NCAA financial report. That number ranked third nationally behind No. 1 Texas ($52 million) and No. 2 Ohio State ($42.8 million).

"Michigan Stadium, which turns 100 next year, is getting ads for the first time in its history," Meek wrote Wednesday, adding, "Before this season, sponsor logos appearing in the stadium included the Allstate field goal nets, the Gatorade logo on sideline equipment, the Michigan Medicine logo on the injury tent and the Jordan Brand logo on players’ jerseys."

Michigan reported $175.3 million in football revenue for 2024-25, joining Notre Dame and Texas as the only schools at more than $170 million. No figures were available for the financial impact of the in-stadium advertising, Michigan spokesperson Dave Ablauf told The Athletic.
