La Mirada, Calif., police are investigating an incident that took place at a local 24-hour gym at 2 a.m. Tuesday after a car drove through the front window and into the building.
The Honda Sedan that plowed through the front entrance of Crunch Fitness and took out the welcome counter was stolen, and there are suggestions the crash may have been intentional.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old former gym member Sergio Reyes of Whittier, was ejected from the gym after three weeks due to alleged stalking and harassment of female members.
Employees told authorities that Reyes was upset over his membership cancellation while he waited to receive a $70 reimbursement.
"This guy just started revving his car and at the end he put it on drive and he let the car go. It was going pretty fast," witness Adrian Nolesco told EYEWITNESS NEWS.
Reyes was seen exiting the vehicle and running toward Imperial Highway. He was found by police in his own vehicle two miles from the scene and taken into custody.
Though the gym was open at the time of the crash, no injuries have been reported. Reyes has been arrested for attempted murder and is being held on $1,000,000 bail.
