Two individuals were shot and wounded Friday on a basketball court at a Fitness Connection location in Mesquite, Texas.
Police responded to a report around 1:20 p.m. that a man had been shot at the health club, but found two wounded individuals — a club employee and a member — upon arrival. One was treated at the scene, while the other was taken to a local hospital. Two nearby high schools were put on lockdown as a precaution.
Three male suspects headed for Interstate 635 in a silver car before police arrived, according to a report by The Dallas Morning News.
Fitness Connection's Facebook account posted a message Friday that included phone numbers for members to call with information, as well as these sentiments: "All of our thoughts and prayers are with the two victims and their families. The health and safety of our members and our employees is always our utmost concern. Our Mesquite gym will remain open, and we will continue to assist the authorities in any way we can."
