One week ago, Rogers boys soccer thought it had earned a landmark victory for the program, knocking off perennial power Central Valley 2-1 in a shootout.

The game was filled with disputed calls, the most controversial a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime for Central Valley which was ruled no goal based upon a concurrent CV foul.

After the game, Central Valley appealed and won its case. The game will resume Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Rogers with the penalty kick and 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

A league representative explained that the game officials made a mistake applying Law 14 from the Laws of the Game, which states if an infraction occurs by the kicking team during a made penalty kick, the kick is retaken, and the ball is not awarded to the defending team as it was in the disputed game.

Central Valley (6-3-1, 5-0-0-1, 16 points) is two points behind Greater Spokane League leaders Ferris and Lewis and Clark, in fourth place among 4A teams. The fourth -place team in the GSL will face the fifth-place team in a play-in to the District 8 tournament on Monday.
