A fire broke out Tuesday at Akron (Ohio) Public Schools, damaging the school's field house and weight room.
According to News 19, the fire started in a weight room outside the Fieldhouse of Ellet Community Learning Center and quickly spread, causing significant damage to the structure.
The field house is a separate structure from the man school building.
“We are grateful for the rapid response and professionalism of the Akron Fire Department,” said Stacey Hodoh, director of communications of Akron Schools. “The department’s quick action prevented the fire from further spreading, but, unfortunately, the detached Fieldhouse did sustain significant damage.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
The main school building was not damaged and an evacuation was avoided.
