Muck Bowl to be held Saturday afternoon |

The details have been finalized and the annual Muck Bowl will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glades Central. The rivalry game between Glades Central and Pahokee was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, but it has been moved due to "security concerns." This comes just one week after the Raiders' home game against Coconut Creek-North Broward Prep was moved to the opponent's stadium. "The purpose behind this decision is to play in the daylight," Palm Beach County School District athletics director Yetta Greene said. "It's better for security concerns." All of these changes were made after officials canceled Glades Central's home game against Miami Northwestern on Oct. 25 due to "unrest in the community." The Raiders received a forfeit loss as a result. The Muck Bowl has been rescheduled before. In 2008, the school district and police decided it was in the interest of public safety to move the game from its usual Friday night slot to a Saturday afternoon game at Pahokee. It was believed to be the first daytime kickoff in Muck Bowl history. The 2008 change was made three weeks after Pahokee senior Norman Griffith was fatally shot in Belle Glade, hours after a Blue Devils game. The following year, the two teams also played on a Saturday afternoon in Belle Glade. [email protected] Twitter: @Anthony_Chiang |
