DVC fires football coach |
DEL VAL CHARTER football coach Shelton Farmer was fired yesterday following a bench-clearing brawl in a game against Roxborough on Saturday. Del Val athletic director Will Cambria said a new coach will be named by the end of the week. Cambria said Del Val principal Ernest Holiday wanted to send a strong message to the players that poor behavior will not be tolerated. Holiday also decided that the team will forfeit its next two games and will not participate in the playoffs this season. Noteworthy In Imhotep's 83-6 drubbing of Future, the Panthers ran 31 plays from scrimmage, and 12 went for touchdowns . . . Northeast scored an improbable 27-19, comeback win over rival Fels by scoring all of its points in the final 3:15 of the game . . . With Del Val forfeiting this weekend, Imhotep - for the time being - has no opponent. Springside Chestnut Hill Academy or Mastbaum Tech could fill the void . . . Carroll senior running back Austin Tilghman (6-2, 220) is a two-sport star (also point guard in hoops) who is receiving Division I interest for both sports . . . Kudos to the Prep Charter tandem of junior quarterback Vian Dolo (43-for-85, 828 yards, five touchdowns) and senior wide receiver Curan Simmons (23 catches, 499 yards - new school record) for leading the way for the 4-1 Huskies . . . Game of the week: St Joseph's Prep at Archbishop Wood Saturday night (7 o'clock) at William Tennent. Wood is led by the junior trio of running back/defensive back Jarrett McClenton, pass rusher Jake Cooper and offensive tackle Ryan Bates. Prep is led by freshman DeAndre Swift (27 carries, 202 rushing, 11 catches for 136 receiving yards with three total TDs). - Amauro Austin |
