Temecula, CA – The Geri-Fit Company announced today that they have launched an online instructor training program available to fitness instructors, personal fitness trainers, healthcare professionals and other geriatric healthcare providers. The accredited distance learning course, Advanced Strength Training Techniques for Older Adults, has been approved by NSCA and ACE for 2.0 CECs/CEUs.
The training program teaches the essential skills needed to work safely with the senior population, specifically those seniors over the age of 75. Instructors will learn evidence-based exercises that are tested and proven to improve clients’ strength, flexibility and balance with a special focus on balance exercises and fall prevention. Instructors who successfully complete the accredited program will be qualified to work at licensed Geri-Fit® facilities.
According to Geri-Fit’s Continuing Education Director, Jane Rauscher, M.,OT, “Instructors will find the advanced training program has broad appeal to group fitness training, personal fitness training, and even the clinical setting.” The advanced training program contains over 80 exercises and stretches that are proven to be safe and effective at improving older clients’ strength, functional capacity, and balance so that there is a decrease in the likeliness of falls. “Instructors teaching fitness to the elderly at senior centers, senior living communities, physical therapy clinics or in-home will find the training extremely beneficial especially since it’s designed for ages 75 and over,” she adds.
The online training program is suitable for trainers of all levels and was designed to increase the skill set of geriatric healthcare providers. “We recognized the need for and the importance of providing fitness and healthcare professionals with quality, evidence-based training in a convenient, ‘on the go’ format,” said Francesca Fisher, Executive Director.
In addition to this newly accredited online program, the company offers live instructor-lead workshops throughout the United States with the first one in 2015 being held at the West Senior Center in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday January 24, 2015.
