ROSEMONT, IL, June 9, 2016 – Hammer Strength, a leading supplier of performance strength equipment, in partnership with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), named Jimmy Kerrigan of Virginia Commonwealth University and Raquel Rodriguez of Penn State University as the winners of the 2016 Hammer Strength All-American Award. These winners exemplify the best of what it takes to become an elite athlete.
To be considered as a Hammer Strength All-American, athletes were judged on their personal qualities and achievements in terms of work ethic, leadership, consistency and academic performance. Winners were announced at the CSCCa annual national conference at the Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches Dinner and Ceremony on Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Fort Worth, TX.
“With the Hammer Strength All-American Award, we recognize and celebrate collegiate athletes who lead the way in superior performance, both on and off the court,” said Chris Clawson, president, Life Fitness. “We congratulate Jimmy and Raquel for their tireless work ethics and academic performance, as well as the inspiring example they set for others.”
Male winner Jimmy Kerrigan of Virginia Commonwealth University is a member of the school’s baseball program, and a true team player in every sense of the word. During a tight game, it’s common for him to rally the team together for a rally or positive encouragement. Since joining the team in 2014, after her transferred from Temple University, Kerrigan has maintained his .300 batting average in the four years of his college baseball career. He is a firm believer in the “no days off” principle and encourages his teammates to stay motivated. Kerrigan hails from Philadelphia, Penn.
Female winner Raquel “Rocky” Rodriguez, originally from Costa Rica, is on Penn State University’s women’s soccer team. Rodriquez is a mentally, physically and emotionally tough leader for her team and encourages her teammates to reach their highest potential. She capped off her incredible senior year season with a game-winning goal to win the NCAA National Championship. She also led Costa Rica to their first entrance in the Women’s World Cup and scored the first world cup goal ever for all of Central America.
“Hammer Strength continues to help college athletes across the country refine their performance and reach their true potential,” Clawson said. “These athletes demonstrate that the dedication applied in the weight room can be translated to other aspects of life, and we’re proud to honor their efforts.”
