Latitude will aid in fall risk reduction programs, providing new modality and accessibility to older active adults

ROSEMONT, Ill., October 5, 2016 – SCIFIT, a leader in rehabilitation and active aging fitness equipment and member of the Life Fitness family, today announced the new SCIFIT Latitude Lateral Stability Trainer. The Latitude Trainer is the first recumbent lateral training machine, designed for active aging adults, those undergoing rehab and exercisers specifically looking to target stabilization muscles.

The first of its kind on the market, the Latitude Lateral Stability Trainer focuses on a side to side movement to target lateral excursion muscles that aren’t strengthened using other sagittal plane elliptical and recumbent cardio equipment. The trainer is bi-directional, offering two different movements that allow the body to work in abduction and adduction. By changing direction, the trainer helps to recruit different muscle groups, engaging the stabilizing muscles which is ideal for fall risk reduction and athletes alike.

“This product fits well into the mission we’ve had from the beginning, which is to create fitness equipment for those who are not represented in the traditional fitness space,” said SCIFIT’s Brittany Hizer, Category Director, Active Aging. “For the active aging adult market, this is a really important product that helps improve balance and stabilization, and build the confidence to be active while reducing the chances of falling.”

From older active adults to rehabilitation exercisers who need to improve balance and stabilization, the Latitude Trainer was designed for accessibility and comfort. Key product features include:

  • Open Architecture: The design allows individuals to get in and out of the product safely and effectively by lifting legs only two inches.
  • Comfort: A swivel seat makes it easy to assist individuals on and off the product safely. Adjustments in seat height and ability to recline allows users to adjust hip and knee angles to address comfort level.
  • Accessibility: An easily removable seat slides off for direct wheelchair access.

“At Life Fitness, we are continuously looking for ways to excel in innovation and product leadership,” said Chris Clawson, President of Life Fitness. “As the older active adult market grows, along with the importance of fall risk reduction, we saw a need to expand SCIFIT’s product portfolio to reach this underserved audience.”
