First Use of Technology to Simulcast Arena Action Live Through Emerging Platform

Sacramento, Calif. — On Sunday, Jan. 8, the Sacramento Kings will participate in another landmark event, as the team's game against the Golden State Warriors and the team's fourth annual Bollywood Night –  a celebration of traditional Indian culture, cinema and music – will be streamed in India by the NBA through Facebook Live.

“Technology allows us to enhance the fan experience – in the arena and around the world like never before,” said Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé. “Through this groundbreaking live broadcast, we’ll be able to engage new fans, introduce many to the excitement of NBA basketball for the first time, and share the Kings cultural showcase that Sacramento-based fans enjoy every year – through an incredibly powerful network that brings people together.”

Fans in India can follow the action and join the telecast on the NBA Facebook page. The broadcast will also be available on the Kings’ and Warriors’ Facebook pages and will feature every moment of the game, as well as in-arena entertainment and games, performances from the Sacramento Kings Dancers and special guests, as well as the Bollywood-style introductions and graphics on the arena 4K Ultra HD videoboard, VSP SKEYE View.

In 2013, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ranadivé became the NBA’s first Indian owner when he purchased the Sacramento Kings. He introduced an organizational mission and philosophy that seeks to make basketball the premier sport of the 21st century. His philosophy, NBA 3.0, focuses on using cutting-edge technology to enhance the fan experience, acting as a positive agent of change in the community and expanding the team’s brand globally.

This October, the Kings opened their new home, Golden 1 Center – the world’s most technologically advanced and sustainable sports venue. The world-class sports and entertainment facility features a 200 gigabit per second internet connection capable of processing 500,000 Snapchat posts, the NBA’s largest and only 4K Ultra HD videoboard, “remote control” capabilities with a first-of-its-kind dual venue and team app, and an autonomous machine that patrols the halls of the arena.
