The Road To the World Championship in Lake Tahoe Begins Saturday; More than 60 Races Scheduled Domestically, and more than 200 Worldwide
BOSTON (January 27, 2017) – Spartan Race, the world’s leading obstacle race company kicks-off its 2017 US season in Lake Elsinore, Calif. Saturday, January 28 with a sold-out field during the Reebok Spartan SoCal Super and Sprint Weekend. Globally, the Spartan Race season kicked-off in the Czech Republic January 14 with races in Dolní Morava.
The race weekend features the Spartan Sprint, a shorter distance race (3-5 miles; 20-23 obstacles) race for people of all skill levels; the Spartan Super, a middle distance race (8-10 miles; 24 – 29 obstacles) with additional obstacles and challenges; and kids races designed for boys and girls as young as 4 years old.
“We’re kicking-off the 2017 US season and the biggest year for Spartan Race to-date with more than 20,000 competitors and spectators coming together to test their grit and take-in the action at the sold out race,” said Spartan Race Founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “We can’t think of a better way to begin this historic year.”
With more than 60 races planned across the United States, 200 events worldwide, and more than one million competitors hitting the course in 2017, Spartan Race is larger than any other obstacle racing or endurance event brand on the planet. This year, all roads lead to Lake Tahoe, Calif. where the world’s best athletes will collide for the 2017 Spartan Race World Championship September 30, 2017 for $100,000 in cash and prizes. To qualify for the World Championship heat, elite men and women racers must finish in the top 5 at any Spartan Race around the world during the 2017 qualifying season.

In the US, the grueling road to the top includes the NBC Sports Network televised Spartan Race US Championship Series, with stops in Washington, California, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, culminating in the finale in West Virginia. During the series, individual race winners and an overall series champion will be crowned and awarded more than $100,000 in cash prizes. Overseas, the 4th annual Spartan Race European Championshipwill be held September 16, 2017 in Encamp, Andorra.
Additional race highlights for the season include the Stadium Series taking place in some of the most hallowed baseball and football stadiums in the US, and the Honor Series, which takes place on US Army bases across the country.
