ProTech polyurethane helmet technology used by NCAA Division I programs showing positive player safety results

Philadelphia, Pa. (May 9, 2017) – Defend Your Head (DYH), a sports safety company based in Chester County, Pennsylvania, is changing the discussion surrounding football-related head trauma through its force reduction soft shell technology product, ProTech. The first product of its kind, ProTech’s uniquely designed polyurethane technology reduces impact of head trauma through absorption and dissipation of forces wherever they occur on the helmet.

Led by former Princeton University linebacker Glenn Tilley and former New York Jets offensive lineman John Roman, DYH’s ProTech helmet-conforming design is backed by years of research and extensive independent testing. Research supports the desired goal that the ProTech technology reduces the risk of head trauma due to blunt force trauma.

“Millions of sports-related concussions plague the sport of football every year at every level,” said Glenn Tilley, CEO of Defend Your Head. “ProTech reduces the risk of head trauma which will allow players to continue playing the sport they love.”

Over the past two years, the College of Holy Cross and Western Carolina University have used ProTech, providing invaluable feedback that has allowed DYH to perfect its product. The outer soft shell technology is currently in use by a number of other NCAA Division I football programs, as well as various high school and youth leagues throughout the country. Manufactured using a special polyurethane foam, DYH’s half-inch thick, easily attachable ProTech helmet cover is custom-designed for every player and is compatible with most major Riddell and Schutt helmet models.

“Our team’s sole mission is to make the game safer for players everywhere,” said John Roman, president of Defend Your Head. “As a former player, I’ve experienced first-hand the growing issues surrounding sports-related concussions. ProTech’s ability to reduce helmet collision force is the ultimate way to protect players whether it’s during practice or in games.”

Designed to be game day ready, ProTech’s seemingly undetectable shape is available in numerous colors and accepts custom decals to accommodate a team’s unique branding. Due to its effectiveness in reducing head injury and its aesthetically pleasing look, ProTech is permitted for both practice and in-game use.
