HOUSTON – May 30, 2017 – Axiall Water Treatment Products announces the introduction of the Acid-Rite® pH water balancing system for use in commercial swimming pools. The system represents a new approach to traditional methods of adding acid to pool water and is NSF/ANSI 50 certified.
The Acid-Rite system, which consists of proprietary three-inch-round sodium bisulfate-based erosion tablets and a patent pending Acid-Rite 2500 feeder, eliminates the need for bulk drums of muriatic acid, metering pumps and associated tubing. It also replaces mixing tanks used to dissolve granular sodium bisulfate.

“Water balance is the linchpin to maintaining a healthy water environment and upkeep of the facility itself,” according to Bruce Nelson, general manager, Axiall Water Treatment Products, a Westlake Chemical business segment. “Swimmer comfort and the effectiveness of chlorine depend upon properly balanced water. For example, when the pH is too high (above 7.8), it slows down chlorine’s ability to destroy common organic contaminants such as sweat, urine and algae. More importantly, active chlorine (1 ppm or greater) works to prevent a breeding ground of germs and bacteria from taking hold. Acid plays a pivotal role in maintaining that balance.”
The Acid-Rite system helps commercial pool operators avoid liquid acid spills and reduces the likelihood of inadvertently mixing liquid chlorine and acid. As an added safeguard against accidental mixing, Acid-Rite tablets are colored red to distinguish them from traditional chlorine tablets, which are typically colored white or blue.
