Silver Spring, MD -- July 7, 2014 -- On July 22, the Sports & Fitness Industry Association’s (SFIA) Legal Task Force will host a webinar updating the industry on the latest news surrounding helmet legislation, regulation, testing, and litigation.

â€śThere are not too many things more important in today’s society than traumatic brain injuries associated with contact sports,” said Gary Wolensky, SFIA Legal Task Force Member, Partner at Arent Foxx LLP, and participating panelist.  “Given the increased attention about concussions and other brain injuries in contact sports, the government, regulating agencies, and the courts have become increasingly involved. It is critical for manufacturers to have a thorough and complete understanding of every new issue associated with testing methodologies, regulation, legislation, and litigation.”

In addition to Wolensky’s legal expertise, the webinar will feature SFIA’s Gold Corporate Partner Exponent’s Sr. Managing Engineer Michael Prange, and SFIA’s Sports Standards Liaison Gregg Hartley. The webinar will be moderated by SFIA Legal Task Force Chairman Mark Granger, Principal at Granger Legal Consulting.

“This program is designed for those who seek the cutting edge without risking major body parts,” said Granger. “It will be a guide to a mature, measured approach to answering questions that do not have clear scientific answers. It is an attempt to muster a multifaceted approach where product design is only a part of the solution.

“This is not meant to be a webinar for novices, but rather a highly technical, informative conveyance of new information given in a one hour setting.  The questions are complicated, the stakes are high, and we intend to lay down the issues and solutions for our association members who are in the business of making helmets for contact sports,” concluded Wolensky. The SFIA-hosted webinar is free to all members and $149 for non-members. For more information or to register, please visit: https://www.sfia.org/calendar/518.
