Officials Say Some Pan Am Venues Need Greater Security
After a routine inspection of the fence surrounding the Pan Am Park, officials discovered that more security measures were needed before the Pan Am Games officially start on Friday.
The Pan Am Park has five competition venues and the primary media center for the Games is located on its perimeter.
According to a Pan Am spokesperson, work is currently being done to fix the problems.
A second security sweep of Pan Am Park will be conducted before events begin.

Oregon Boys Charged in Civic Stadium Fire Face Additional, More Serious Charges
The four boys charged with starting a fire that burned down the historic Civic Stadium in Oregon face additional charges including first-degree arson and reckless endangerment after their first court appearance.
Three 12-year-old boys are in custody at a juvenile center and it is unknown if the fourth boy, who is only 10, is in custody. The fire started after the boys were lighting leaves and other debris in the stadium's press box and the fire got out of hand.
Police are investigating whether the boys were involved with other fires that started around the Civic Stadium area before the stadium burned down.
All four boys are charged with first-degree arson, second-Âdegree arson, two counts of second-Âdegree burglary, first-Âdegree criminal mischief, second-Âdegree criminal mischief, reckless burning and reckless endangerment.
Fan at Angel Stadium Runs on Field, Evades Security
A fan ran onto the field at Angel Stadium while the Anaheim Angels were playing the Seattle Mariners in a recent game and made it very difficult for security to catch him.
The man started in center field, where he dodged security officials who were chasing him around the outfield.
He then made it all the way to the pitchers mound where he pretended to throw a pitch.
The man eventually gave himself up near the dugout when security officials finally got close enough to catch him. He was on the field for almost a minute before he was apprehended.

Brazilian Soccer Fans Break Security Fence
Angry fans of the Avai Futebol Club broke an acrylic panel being used as a security fence after a referee of the match between Avai and Sport awarded Sport a late penalty kick that allowed Sport to tie the game.
Police had to intervene and form a security barrier between fans and the referees as the officiating team left the field following the end of the game.
According to the match referee's report, "As we were heading into the tunnel, a battery was thrown at the four officials from the area where Avai fans were located and hit the police shield."

Concerts Canceled in Cincinnati Ahead of All Star Game
Cincinnati officials canceled an upcoming hip-hop concert and the remainder of a summer series ahead of the upcoming All Star Game to prevent incidents after violence broke out following a concert last weekend.
City officials have been giving assurance that the city will be safe for those attending the All Star Game on July 14, as well as other events associated with the game.
This past weekend, two police officers were hurt, a civilian was beaten and some police wore riot gear while arresting seven people after a concert in the city.
There will be a large police presence, including undercover officers, in the city after many months of security planning for the All-Star Game, which has also involved the FBI, Coast Guard and other federal, state and local agencies, city leaders said.
