North Carolina State is looking for a bump in revenue by selling the naming rights for the school's athletic director position
According to BackingThePack.com. the NC State Board of Trustees considered a proposal that would sell the naming rights to the athletic director position for $5 million, which would include a $3 million endowment for the AD position, and $2 million to the existing athletics enhancement fund.
NC State isn't the first school to take this route. The Stanford head men's basketball coach is the “Ann and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball.”
The move by NC State comes as schools scramble to begin paying student-athletes in July, following the expected approval of the NCAA's $2.8 billion settlement with current and former athletes.
Under the agreement, athletics departments will have a $20 million revenue-sharing cap, which can be distributed to student-athletes.
