San Diego State University may be dominating on the gridiron, but the school's athletics department, like many others across the country, is struggling to make ends meet.

That's why the school is now floating a proposal to raise students' activities fees by over 40%.

According to Fox 5, SDSU's lack of fans at football games is hurting the school's bottom line. Now the Aztecs are trying to make up for about $9.7 million in losses. That's on top of the $16 million already collection.

Students currently spend $580 on fees, and the proposal would push those fees to $840.

"Being charged more even though I’m going to the games is unfair,” Parker Buzo, an SDSU student, told Fox 5.

Students complain they may be charged for something they have no control over.

The Aztecs' current student-fee total is the highest in the Mountain West, ahead of San Jose State, which gets around $10 million annually in student fees.
