The University of Illinois athletic department announced on Tuesday a flash giveaway of student tickets for Saturday night’s football game against Iowa.
Fresh off the Illini's victory at Wisconsin, hundreds of students lined up for the 12:30 p.m. giveaway held at two locations, and all 1,000 available tickets were claimed within minutes, according to WCIA in Champaign.
The athletic department said the giveaway was made possible by a group of donors purchasing the tickets for students to have. It’s part of a larger marketing effort to fill the stadium after the Illini football team defeated the Big Ten West Division rival Badgers on the road last Saturday.
With the win against Wisconsin, Illinois is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, and in a six-way tie for first place in the Big Ten West. Illinois is also two wins away from becoming bowl-eligible.
