Fundraising Friday: $1.4M to Bethune-Cookman, Evansville Baseball Gets In-Kind Upgrades

Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla., announced March 22 that local entrepreneur and philanthropist L. Gale Lemerand has gifted $1.4 million to the school. Lemerand's donation will be used to renovate two buildings on campus that will benefit Wildcats athletics. The L. Gale Lemerand Multiplex and L. Gale Lemerand Football Complex will be used for academic support, meeting and office space, recruiting, athletic locker rooms and other similar purposes to support student-athletes.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce athletic department raised a total of $102,880 during its first Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund Giving Day on March 5., the school announced last week. During the 24-hour initiative, the department surpassed its inaugural goals of $100,000 from 100 donors. Instead, the giving day attracted 130 donors, with contributions supporting all 14 Division I sports programs, the Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund, and the cheer and dance programs.

ARC Construction Co. Inc. in Evansville, Ind., has committed $77,400 in materials and labor to the University of Evansville's baseball program in the form of new and upgraded press facilities for German American Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium. The new construction will ensure top-level facilities will be available as the Purple Aces program prepares to host the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Baseball Tournament in May. According to the EU athletics website. the transformative project will enclose platform areas on the first- and third-base sides of the baseball stadium that will be equipped with HVAC and modern amenities to accommodate media during baseball games. Additionally, the project includes replacing the canopy on the tops of the press boxes, ensuring a comfortable and functional environment for both media personnel and spectators.
