Fundraising Friday: Record BU Giving Day, $6M Gift Supports UNH Facilities

The Boston University Department of Athletics raised $1.4 million April 3 during its record-breaking BU Giving Day. According to an announcement on the athletic department website, 2,708 donors total participated, with 250 contributions of $1,000 or more and 41 being $10,000-plus gifts. It marked the seventh consecutive year the event exceeded $1 million in total donations.

Murray State University's athletic department announced Tuesday that it had received a $250,000 gift from an anonymous donor out of Paducah, Ky. The gift will help the department with capital campaign initiatives to enhance the Racers' athletics footprint, continuing a commitment to facility updates and the overall student-athlete experience.

The University of Pennsylvania announced a $3 million gift from alums H. Elliott Rogers, Jr. and Gail Underwood Rogers to ensure support for student-athletes competing in Penn track & field and cross country, according to a report in the University of Pennsylvania Almanac.

The University of New Hampshire recently received two major gifts that will help UNH “compete for championships, and broaden UNH athletics’ profile nationally,” director of athletics Allison Rich stated in an NH Business Review report Monday. Anthony DiLorenzo, owner of the Key Auto Group, gifted $4 million toward the renovation of the Whittemore Center, home to the men’s and women’s hockey programs, as well as the Hamel Recreation Center. Meanwhile Greg and Corinna Tucker made a $2 million gift to install lights at Tucker Field, the namesake future home of the men’s and women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse programs.

Union Bank & Trust Co. donated $75,000 to the University of Arkansas at Monticello Athletics Legacy Campaign, according to a report in The Pine Bluff Commercial. The funds will support adding LED lights to Weevil Field and Alvy Early Softball Field, allowing both fields to host night games for the first time in their existence.

Student athletes returning from spring break at Fairview High School in Fairview Park, Ohio, discovered a $34,000 upgrade to the weight room located in the schools athletic hallway, thanks to a donation from the Fairview Park Athletic Club, cleveland.com reported.
