Welcome to Fundraising Friday, AB Today's weekly digest of recent developments in development.
DePaul University on Monday announced a $2.5 million donation from Board of Trustees member Jennifer Steans, president and CEO of Financial Investments Corporation, and James Kastenholz, CEO of Kastenholz Construction Services. The couple's gift is initiating funding for a new, state-of-the-art basketball practice facility being planned on DePaul’s Lincoln Park Campus in Chicago. According to the university's announcement, the athletics facility will feature an exterior brick facade that mirrors the aesthetic of the Lincoln Park neighborhood and a pitched roof that pays homage to DePaul’s former Lincoln Park arena, Alumni Hall, where the Blue Demon men’s basketball team won nearly 300 games from 1956 to1980.
Roger Maisner, Mansfield University of Pennsylvania professor emeritus and former director of athletics, has committed $1 million toward student-athlete scholarships through the Mansfield University Mountaineer Foundation, making it the largest gift in the history of Mountaineer Athletics, the school announced Tuesday. Of that record amount, $100,000 will go toward immediate-use scholarships supporting the men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and baseball programs at Mansfield.
The Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced Tuesday that the Packers are making a leading gift to establish and endow the Mark Murphy Director of Athletics position at the school. The $250,000 donation is being made by the Packers in honor of the organization's longtime president and CEO as he approaches retirement in July after 17 seasons. The gift kickstarts a fundraising campaign with a goal of $1 million that will help ensure Phoenix student-athletes are able to excel in the classroom and in competition, and continue to make a positive impact in the Green Bay community.
