Weber State University alum Paul Wheelwright and his wife Brenda, who earned a Master's degree at WSU, are continuing their many years of support of the school's athletic department with a $1 million commitment. As reported by the Standard-Examiner of Ogden, Utah, the donation will directly support Weber State football and basketball in key areas such as recruitment, scholarships and other financial needs with the goal of giving the programs a competitive edge in the constantly evolving landscape of college athletics.
The nonprofit Kids Inc. held a press conference April 3 in Amarillo, Texas, to announce that a donation of $1 million had been given to the Rockrose Sports Park from an Amarillo family close to the project. As reported by the Plainview Herald, the major donation puts Kids Inc. within 80 percent of its goal for Phase 1 of the complex — $24 million of the overall goal of $30 million. Sherry Morrison and her grandsons, Norm and Conrad, and other family members were on hand to make the donation in honor of Sherry's late husband, Dean. The outdoor park, which will host over seven different sports in a 90-acre complex with 60 acres of lighted turf. Included in the complex will be eight baseball and softball fields, eight football fields and 31 soccer fields with synthetic turf.
