Lake City Public Schools in Wabasha County, Minn., is the recipient of a $1.2 million financial gift from the estate of Andru Peters, a Lake City High School alum and former football player who died in May. As reported Wednesday by KTTC, the district will use the funds to support long-term improvements to its athletic complex used for football and soccer, including upgrades to grounds, lighting and seating.
Unbridled Campaign chair Randy Hales and wife Lisa have elevated their legacy of giving to Boise State University athletics with a $2.2 million gift, announced by the school last week. The donation will help fund the north end zone renovation at Albertsons Stadium and other capital projects.
University of Miami Athletics announced Thursday that Hurricanes supporter Max Chira has made a $1.81 million gift to the newly launched Victory Fund that will construct life-sized statues of Miami’s two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks – Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta, that will be displayed outside the Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence. Additionally, the gift will establish the Chira Architecture Student Award, a one-time prize for a University of Miami graduate student contributing to the project.
The University of Tennessee announced Thursday that Grant Williams, among the greatest basketball players in UT history, is donating $1.5 million to the UT Foundation. Of that amount, Williams is gifting $1 million to the athletic department, with $750,000 going to the Men's Basketball Excellence Fund and $250,000 to the My All Unrestricted Fund for Softball.
KSBY reported Thursday that California Polytechnic State University athletic director Don Oberhelman and his wife donating $250,000 toward the John Madden Football Center on the Cal Poly campus in San Louis Obispo. The 33,000-square-foot building currently under construction will feature a new team locker room, coach's offices with support spaces, team meeting rooms, a weight room, training and medical support spaces, a student athlete lounge space including a nutrition area, as well as a lobby and public/reception/entrance spaces with access to the south end of the stadium.
