The Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Committee issued a public reprimand to Caleb Morgan, director of men's and women's cross country and track field at Lee University.
Before the 2022 Division II South regional Nov. 19, Lee's list of student-athletes competing in the regional was received by meet officials. In a return confirmation email from the school, a Lee student-athlete's name that did not appear on the original email was added to the list.
The student-athlete competed in the women's race at the South regional before the discrepancy in the two lists was discovered by race officials and the designated site representative.
After reviewing the information, the Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Committee decided to issue a misconduct violation to Morgan.
Penalties included:
- Morgan was prohibited from attending any events associated with the 2022 Division II National Championships Festival, which took place Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Seattle.
- Lee was fined $1,500 for failure to adhere to on-site championship policies pertaining to check-in procedures.
- The Division II South regional meet was rescored without the ineligible student-athlete's result.
- A public reprimand was issued.
"We were disappointed in Mr. Morgan's behavior, and this sort of conduct will not be tolerated during the Division II cross country championships," said Chris Bradford, committee chair and coach of the Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.
