NCAA Offers Look at Graduation Success Rates of March Madness Teams

Those in the field of 68 for both the Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships are not only standouts on the court, but also in the classroom.

Participating men's and women's teams have a combined four-cohort average Graduation Success Rate of 89 percent. The men's teams registered an average of 84 percent, and women's teams scored an average of 94 percent. The rates are from the latest reporting span (2019-22) and refer to the cohorts that entered college between 2012 and 2015.

This information follows a report released by NCAA research in November 2022 that showed Division I student-athletes as a whole are graduating at 89 percent, the highest rate recorded.

Fifty-four men's programs have GSRs above 75 percent, with 21 registering perfect GSRs. Those with 100 percent GSRs:

  • Boise State.
  • College of Charleston.
  • Duke.
  • Furman.
  • Gonzaga.
  • Howard.
  • Iowa State.
  • Kentucky.
  • Miami (Florida).
  • Michigan State.
  • Mississippi State.
  • Northwestern.
  • Princeton.
  • Southern California.
  • Texas Southern.
  • Vermont.
  • Virginia.
  • VCU.
  • West Virginia.

Fifty women's teams have GSRs above 90 percent, with 35 holding perfect GSRs. Those with 100 percent GSRs:

  • Gonzaga.
